About Loki and I: I am Midwestern business owner who happens to be an eccentric Puerto Rican. I live in a dome with my potato farming husband, Loki, and my kitty cats. I write creepy stories, draw cool stuff, am active in my community and generally lead a quiet life. Don't hesitate to comment on the public posts and get to know me.

The Taino people are not extinct! We still live!

Vas's Opinion Capsules -- Quotes that capture the essensce of Vas's Opinions. Go ahead, challenge them. They are here to make your brain function. If you want to use them, go ahead... just be sure to acknowledge me, Vanesa Littlecrow W.

On Love and Lust
There is nothing wrong with idealization and imagination, but there's only so much heartache and frustration the body can deal with. One of my greatest strengths, and also one of my greatest weaknesses is my carnality -- likewise with my frustration. So I must find a balance, and I feel that the balance is in fact love. The love that I get from family, my little animals, friends, confidants and my spouse, and the love I perceive from the things than are not necessarily sentiment, is irrational, and sometimes deeply painful, but these days I feel that my cup is full to the brim.

On Being a Lesbian and Married to a Staight Man.
I will be the first one to admit that I am extremely uncomfortable to define myself and to have other people define me by my sexual identity. Even after 32 years of being alive, I can't figure the damn thing out. Aside from having the unfortunate dilema of being a misogynist who is predominantly attracted to women, yet married to Loki and making it work, that is.

On Bad Decisions and Making a Difference
I love volunteering for anti-drug/anti-gang public speaking engagements, even though I support tighly-controlled medical marijuana legalization. If the few years I went through hell because of my bad judgement help someone avoid a lifetime of misery, then my suffering was not in vain.

On Autism
Autism isn't even a disability in many cases! Yes, I am autistic. Yes, my life has been difficult because of it. Social competency is really hard for me, and I am a very slow learner (even if I do learn a lot of stuff.) At the same time autism has opened so many doors of perception that typical people cannot even comprehend. Autism has been a huge blessing for me.

On Why I Keep a Blog
A good friend was explaining to me why she hadn't been commenting on some of my entries as of late. There was really no need for her to do so because, I don't really expect anyone to comment on those self-revelatory entries. LJ is my first and foremost, my journal. It just happens that I share it.

On Art
My art, as bleak, furious and amoral as it can sometimes be, is an outlet from being a destructive individual and a drug addict. This release helps me deal with my inherently evil nature in a creative and healthy way. (Note: I strongly believe in the concept of "Original Sin" and "evil" as it relates to a human being's instinctive geno-memetic drive for reliance on animalistic survival strategies that do not benefit societal structure by and large.)

On Artists
An artist who has an innate fire to create art. An artist has technical skill and mastery in at least one discipline. An artist also has the wisdom to know when to ignore the rules. An artist isn't hung-up on himself, theory or pleasing the critics, and in fact finds a perverse sense in satisfaction in proving the pointyheaded poseurs wrong -- even if that satisfaction doesn't arrive until the post-mortem. An artist is consistently capable of not producing utter shit. An artist can articulate what their work is about without getting hung up on bullshit that has nothing to do with the final product. An artist has a stylistic fingerprint and isn't afraid of flashing it, but can imitate other styles without submitting to them blindly. An artist has knowledge about other artists, history and technique, but has enough sense to know when learnedness crosses over into pendantry. An artist recognizes that art has power and that beauty is not as subjective as everyone assumes. An artist is willing to sacrifice everything for his art. Real artists have apprentices who are inspired to learn the craft by his work, not students interested in nothing more than an easy class. An artist embraces maturity in creativity even as he exists in the realm of insanity.

On Stage Fright
The only time I feel comfortable with people giving me attention is when I am on stage, singing and dancing. Award ceremonies embarass me. Readings bore me. Theater makes me nauseated with fear. Fame scares the hell out of me. Movement and music are the magical exception with the rule.

On Sex, Violence and Choreography
Working on a fight scene and love scene for a comic book are very similar ventures. Even though these are still images, there is a great deal of choreography involved. I am aware that this is the same story for serious film and the stage. It's a good thing I'm a dancer, otherwise it would be harder.

On Money
"Money can't buy happiness." Yeah right! That phrase was something the massa came up with to placate the slaves.

On Gossip
I hate being dragged into other people's fights, but I always love hearing the gossip about me. Rumors about me don't upset me, I just find them funny.

On Being a Gold-Digger
I am a gold-digger, but... I don't fit the stereotype. Even people in (the real world) seem shocked when I call myself a gold-digger, because people don't normally associate a strong and independent woman with that label... I am perfectly capable (of taking) care of myself, however, if my life can be made more efficient because a man subscribes to "obsolete" ideals of chivalry, more power to me. Feminism really short-changes women by fostering the myth of sexual sameness (notice I did not say "equality",) instead of encouraging women and others to obtain power by social means as well as those means provided by biological imperative. It doesn't sound sexy or politically correct, but it's true.

On Self-Employment
People often have a very distorted idea of what it is like to be self-employed. A typical misconception: "Oh gee, it must be nice to be your own boss; no one to tell you what to do. You can take time off any time you want." If only that were true.

On the "Gay Agenda"
- Sexual identity is more often than not tied to sexual orientation, but not necessarily. Neither orientation nor identity dictate behavior. In some people one or more factors may become mutable as they develop and grow. Anyone who claims otherwise is trying to sell you an agenda.
- Government should not tell people that who they can marry (unless a child as defined by law, or an animal unable to consent in human language is involved.) Conversely people shouldn't expect government perks or priviledge of ownership because people marry. (Hence my complete opposition to civil marriage - gay or straight. Marriage should be a spiritual event or a public announcement of a relationship.)
- Genitals are a very tiny portion of the bodymass. It should not be requirement for a person to define identity by such a tiny part of the body.
- Nobody likes overly macho men or bubbleheaded women who flaunt AND impose their heterosexuality upon other people. Why on earth should people of other sexual preferences who flaunt AND impose their identity be treated any differently

On my fanatical dedication to my art projects...
Can y'all tell I am way too obsessed with this project? Better than being obsessed with some chick who will drive me to the depths of insanity and cause marital strife, no?

On Political Correctness
Why don't they ban the Fighting Irish if they aren't going to leave the [University of North Carolina at Pembroke] Braves[, a team named by American Indians,] alone? Political-correctness make me want to puke.

On Economy
I didn't flip a coin to determine who would get what. Nope, I tossed my brand new business credit card into the air and it landed tails. Gives new meaning to cashless transaction, no?

On Why I Hide my Cats from the Blogging World
I normally never post any cat stuff on my LJ because too much cute is bad for the liver and my cats are for my personal joy and amusement.

On Failure
Failure is highly overrated. It should be a lesson that should be learned once and never again. I feel adaptability is better. You cannot fail if you are willing to change strategy. As for success, financial is always good, but if your mind is still in loser-mode, it will mean nothing. Fame is even more overrated than failure.

On Suburban Ganstas
"Gangsta" playground graffiti in suburban Maryland, makes me want to find the kids responsible, tie them up and take them on a plane trip to a relativitely tame ghetto, like say, the bad side of North Minneapolis, MN... I would introduce these ganglings to many of the colorful characters I met back in the day.... I'd love to see if those suburban elementary school fuggers want to be part of anyone "posse" then. Yeah boyyyyyyy...

What happened to make the "CONSERVATIVES" so non-conservative?
Disintrest in history and unscrupulous businesses trying to force a socialist government of dependency in order to eliminate the natural competiton that a healthy capitalist state engenders, making sure to cut corners and quality for the sake of profit at all costs [is what happened.] We do not have a democracy in the United States, this is a Republic that is increasingly being tainted by a nationalist theotechnocratic socialist state. Sadly as another nationalist techoncratic socialist state taught us back in the 20th century, this form of government is an effective way to create a mass that is complacent and eager to accept the party line.

On sex education for teens.
Want to get your teenage kid to avoid unsafe sex? Illustrate your point with graphic photos of genitals with STDs. It worked for me.

What is the most valued item (thing) in your home?
I do not believe in assigning intrinsic value to objects, because everything is so temporary. People/living things all hold the value of existance, so for me it is difficult to make such a judgement. Concepts are merely concepts which change as more knowledge and wisdom is collected. However, in a capitalist sense, only money and good for trade have a mutable value of tender. However, value is a mere concept that in it of itself means nothing. There are things I treasure, but when I die, they will ultimately be meaningless. So in a sense, life is the one thing I value among all others, since life itself creates concepts such as value.

On Pacifism and Having a Consistent Life Ethic
I would erase the death of any innocent person who was wrongly executed, be it for penalty or medical reasons. I would not erase anyone from the world because I feel that killing is wrong. The only time I would consider erasing someone from this world is in self-defense or to defend my way of life. I believe in fighting for my right to life, liberty and happiness, but I know that violence is not the path to peace.

On Double-Standards Regarding Women Getting Out of the Adult Industry
Small town people are always concerned about women of ill-repute causing problems because they work careers of questionable morals. Yet it is rare that small town people allow these same women to get careers that are not questionable, because of the fact that they are women of ill-repute. It's a vicious cycle, really, but that's just how small towns work.

On Elitism
You are either snobby and elite (meaning a member of a small group that elevates itself) or you are for the massses. In between is aspirable. Aspirable gives hope. Hope makes disappointment. Disappointment makes hostility. Hostility makes BOOM!

On Bluntness
Sometimes, I have such bad foot-in-mouth disease, it kills me. I often feel like I am walking on egg shells whenever I express what's on my mind. I don't like hurting people, in particular those who don't deserve it, but it often seems like I make the same mistakes over and over in my comport.

Where I Fit In Society
I am THE VAS.

My Opinion of Liberal Politics
So, if you want to win over people like me who think Liberal ideology tends to be the stuff of namby-pampy wafflers, unwashed New Age hippie freaks, economic girlie men, clueless idealists, mob mentality and Kerryesque surrender monkeys, YOU MUST READ THE LETTER.

On Guns and Freedom
Thinking of jetting off to an European country or Canada because America is losing her rights and freedoms? Why not help preserve the one right that will ultimately prevent absolute dictatorship in this country from running amuk?

On Lawyers
A lawyer has to be a total retard to base his entire case on the opinion that the courts are being tyrannical for doing their job. Judges regardless of political stripe, never appreciate such comments and they will almost always retaliate against the bigmouth.

On the Eroding Principles of Organized Religion
Religions, unlike the Boy Scouts of America and the White Power folks, are too addicted to public money to do what they feel is right, regardless of what anyone else has to say.

On Government Entitlements
Everyone "needs" help, but honestly, there isn't enough money to feed the big government machine. People feel they "deserve" help anyway. This mentality really bothers me on a fundamental level. It's this greedy leftist poison that has ruined the foundation of self-reliance in our nation. I don't want to move to Europe because I resent paternalistic governments, so why should I encourage it here? While it is true Loki and I are not at our old income levels at this point, we have enough. Anything else, is just luxury.

On Personal Rights
If I don't stand up for my rights, who else will?

On Abortion and Artificial Reproduction
I would love to be less pissed off about this sick scam that "reproductive freedom" has become, but as long as pro-choice-vegan Peta members and Catholics with in-vitro babies exist, I feel that keeping my big mouth shut is not an option.

On People Thinking I'm a Liberal
Most people assume I'm a liberal because of my attitudes regarding sex and religion. However, I really am not very liberal at all when it comes to most other issues. Since I am very preoccupied with sex and religion and those are the topics that dominate most of my discources with people, I trust that it's not hard to believe that I am anything but conservative.

On Personal Responsibility
The devil isn't making me do it, my childhood (though helping) isn't making me do it and neither are other people. I am responsible for who I am, this is why I need to take a stance, and overcome this obstacle.

On Catholicism
I don't know of anyone else out there who would be willing to pay over $10 K in medical bills for an insane streetwalker who happened to be an atheist (borderline Satanist) with major drug-problems, without any expectations of getting anything in return, at all. That's what the Catholics did for me, kids. I came back to them on my own free will, because quite frankly, they restored my faith in humanity when just about everyone else failed me.

On Atheism
Atheism is not disbelief in religion, social order, all things paranormal, spirituality, even metaphysics, or matters unexplainable by empirical observation. If that were atheism, I would be an idiot. Atheism is merely the belief that God(ess)(e)(s) does not exist.

My Objections to 21st Century Style Goths (as Opposed to the Previous Darksider/Goth Model, Gothic Architecture, Or the Goth Hordes)
Single sentence: To be Goth is to be able to find erudite beauty in evil and tragedy. When the learnedness, evil and tragedy are removed from being Goth, it's just beauty in black.

On Consumerism and Thrift
Why buy a new and enviromentally insane sponge with a scrubber on the back, when I could crochet my glut of mesh fruit bags into an ample supply of post-consumer recycled scrubbers that work just as well.

On Revolution
Educate yourself before saying stuff like, "we need a revolution again in this country to throw off our own illegal regime," before you really understand what that means and you are ready to live life without toilets and Coca Cola.

True Political Conservatism (As Opposed to Being a Republican)
Political conservatism in the context of post-Constitutional America is not about closed-mindedness or stupidity. It is merely the desire to conserve a stable governmental system that promotes the maximum amount of personal happiness and a positive quality of life without needing to resort to revolution, or other violent action such as governmental absolutism. However, should that need arise, it is the responsibility of the people to preserve their way of life.

What I Want To Do Now and For the Rest of My Life
I will probably be cooking dinner for my husband. We'll eat at the table and discuss life in general. We'll go outside and sit on the hammock and stare at nature. We'll go back inside. I will play with the computer. He will read a book.

On Porn
Contrary to popular belief, Vas isn't a porn fiend... In general, I just think it is a waste of money and time for the consumer, who would be better served by spending those resources on finding a partner... I get more stimulated (not necessarily erotically) over a new scientific breakthrough or a gourmet delight than any porn film money can buy.

On Taxes
When you scream, BIG BUSINESS NEEDS TO PAY IT'S FAIR SHARE OF TAXES, you seem to be oblivious about the fact that the only reason they don't is because politicians are pussies and because big business has expensive lawyers and incredible accountants. When you demand that businesses pay more taxes, realize that it isn't Microsoft, Target, Walmart, Norwest Airlines, the MN Twins and all those super rich corporations that get reamed in the ass. It isn't the companies declaring bankruptcy and screaming for bail-outs, either. The only businesses that get sodomized by higher taxes are small, non-corporate business that are actually making progress getting out of the red, and into the green without any government handouts, grants or other such bullshit.

More to come, I'm sure...
