This is old news, but I just learned about it. Holy cats!

People accused me of creating pointless drama when I stormed out of the troupe I once loved, that was started by a woman I once called "friend", an hour prior to another holiday performance years before.  (Nevermind that several other troupe jumped ship that night as well.)  I admit I was a diva about the situation, but the working environment really was unbearable.

I wish this were surprising.  Oh well.  It explains why I am so reluctant to go back to doing burlesque.

Wow, how did I miss *that* article???

My nonprofit background screams WRONG! on so many levels here.

Foremost, the fundraiser title was totally degrading and reinforced stereotypes.

Not getting permission from the agencies to use their name!?!?!? WTF!

Oh, I could go on…. and on.

Seems Ms. Buchanan’s decided lack of professionalism has not improved over time.

In that she seems totally unfazed by the criticism and intends to do it again, … what a self-involved little Bitch!

(and I rarely, rarely stoop to calling someone a Bitch, but this woman totally deserves the title)

I missed it too. I was really horrified that she could've behaved in such a way, and think that name of that "fundraiser" was somehow "clever". Sadly, I am not surprised. Substance abuse and the lust for fame can turn otherwise good people into total jerks. It's too bad Ms. Buchanan had to chose that path, and will continue to do so, again.

Sad.

What a fucking hack. Someone needs to yank her off of the stage "Gong Show" style. Then kick her. This is the absolute worst troupe I have seen, aside from one of the male singers, and it just keeps sliding further downhill, and it's due in a large part to her unprofessionalism, lack of talent, and ego. She drags everyone down with her.

The real tragedy is that she was an amazing and admirable person before the fame and alcohol. It's a real shame to see the troupe slide down further into disrepair.

It's sad, in a way. She's the one who's f'ed up, and got her motives all out of order. The charities did the right thing, and I hope AB comes to her senses sooner than later. One more reminder to me why I don't drink anymore.

And I thank you very much for not doing so.

I really like the professionalism of the last quote. OH yeah, what a winner!

I thought the same damn thing.
8th-Mar-2008 01:06 pm (UTC) - New ('Neo') Burlesque vs Classic Burlesque
I find it a little funny how classic burlesque was frowned down upon in it's day-and-age for it's low-brow humour and scanty clothing/dancers... yet compared to 'neo' burlesque, it's so tame, it's scary!
Alas, today's idea of low-brow humour can be so low, even some low-brow humourists won't touch it! Dunno if it's due to where today's standards have gone or due to the lower intellect of today's society (sounds mean of me, don't it?).
Seriously, though, I love low-brow humour and female nudity as much as the next guy (notice how they're standing in line), but there are limitations, and being an 'ass' about it and doing illegal things are obviously past the limits. Even burlesque has it's respectability!

Or did I just make an 'ass' out of myself with all this??

I think you hit it in the head.
